GPO Opens 24-25 Season with Boldly Brahms
Greeley, CO – October 11, 2024 – The Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra is excited to kick off its 2024-2025 Signature Series with the concert "Boldly Brahms." Experience a musical journey through America, Argentina, and the Alps. The program features von Suppé’s lively Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna Overture, Ira Hearshen’s take on Sousa’s march "The Thunderer," and the spirited folk dances of Argentina in Alberto Ginastera's Estancia. The concert concludes with Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 in C minor, known for its powerful finale of “deliverance and peace” unfolding to “unrestrained triumph.”
How do you create a remarkable symphonic work after Beethoven, one of the greatest composers? For Brahms, it took 20 years of perfectionism to complete his first symphony. In the wake of Beethoven’s passing, many new composers were navigating this changing musical landscape. Brahms found success by drawing inspiration from both Beethoven and Bach, incorporating familiar themes that resonated with audiences of his time and expanding on them in innovative ways. This approach continues to captivate listeners today.
Prior to the concert, meet us at Aunt Helen’s Café and Wine Bar for a 3-course dinner. Sip & Savor bundles include dinner and concert tickets for a cheaper experience packed with a flavorful meal and exciting performance, perfect for your night on the town.
