Greeley Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Announces Auditions for Aspiring Young Musicians
Greeley, CO – August 5, 2024 – The Greeley Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (GPYO) is excited to announce auditions on September 14th, 2024, starting at 10 AM. The auditions will be held at the First Congregational Church in Greeley.
Founded in 1947, the original Greeley Philharmonic Junior Orchestra has a distinguished history, with many alumni advancing to prominent careers as performers and music educators, including principal musicians with the San Francisco Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. The GPYO was revived in 2021 through a collaboration among the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, the University of Northern Colorado’s School of Music, UNC Professor of Violin Jubal Fulks, and regional music educators. This revival aims to reintroduce a premier orchestral experience for school-aged musicians in Northern Colorado.
In 2023, local music educator and professional violist Doran Azari assumed the role of GPYO Director. Azari, who retired from teaching in the Greeley-Evans School District 6 in 2020, had dedicated over 30 years to music education across nearly every secondary school in Greeley.
The GPYO’s recent concert in April 2024, their first in 50 years, was a standout success, drawing a full house with a performance of Vivaldi’s Spring, featuring Sarah Whitnah, then co-concertmaster of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. The enthusiastic response highlights the community’s strong support for this revitalized musical treasure.
Rehearsals will be held on Saturday mornings, with the first concert scheduled for November 9th. For more information on audition requirements and to register, please visit www.greeleyphil.org/gpyo. Don’t miss this opportunity to join Northern Colorado’s premier youth orchestra!
