Once upon a time, there was a little ogre name Shrek…

GREELEY, Colorado – The Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave., proudly welcomes Shrek the Musical with the Stampede Troupe and the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday, February 7-8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek the Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all-new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Presented by the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra in partnership with the Stampede Troup and the Union Colony Civic Center, Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.

Jim DeMersseman, Harold Hamler, and Kent Smith brought the Stampede Troupe together in 1974. This community theatre organization is Greeley’s oldest theatre production company and has continued to be a community where over 1,000 community artists have participated in more than 100 theatrical productions. The Stampede Troupe has three missions; to produce a variety of high quality live theatre for the community, provide organized, efficient and artists performance opportunities for actors and other creative artists, and offer theatre oriented educational experiences for youth.

The Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the few orchestras in the United States to reach an elite status of operating for over a century. Each member in the orchestra had auditioned and contracted by the Greeley Philharmonic. Many musicians at the GPO have made successful careers performing throughout the Front Range and beyond.
