Clarifying Information about our Composer in Residence
Our Composer in Residence, Dylan Fixmer, has done some amazing work for your Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra over the past year and a half. In addition to writing three original works which the GPO has premiered - "The Burroughs Overture," "Bells of the Winter Range," and "Concerto for Violin," he has finished sketching a 30-minute symphonic work to be premiered at the beginning of next season honoring the city of Greeley and its people. Beyond creating great partnerships to help bring support to homeless assistance organizations in northern Colorado, Dylan's "Concerto for Violin" also provided the GPO with international attention, being featured in the Times of London, Radio Classique - Paris and Le Figaro as well as on Colorado Public Radio's Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
Along with writing music for the GPO, Dylan has conducted over 60 hours of educational outreach in D6 schools, reaching over 500 music students ranging from second to twelfth grade in general music, band, orchestra, and choir. During these educational outreach sessions, Dylan worked with students on personal musicality, engagement with concert music, and composing. With two of his composing workshops, Dylan created two original works with help from students at Prairie Heights and Chappelow middle schools which were premiered by the students last spring. Dylan has also started the first annual Magic Baton Melody Contest in which over 120 D6 middle school students participated by submitting original melodies for the contest. The winning melody by Lily from Chappelow K8 will be premiered by the GPO at the upcoming Poinsettia Pops concert on December 3.
Dylan's Composer in Residence position is made possible by donors like you and if you think Dylan's work is worth $0.37 a note, (which we sure do and we would love to pay him that much!) then please consider donating this Colorado Gives Day December 6, 2023.
